Apple iPad annouced

Apple announced The iPad a tablet computer on January 27, 2010. Sized 0.5-inches thick, weighs 1.5 pounds, and features a 9.7-inch capacitive multitouch display. It is powered by a proprietary 1GHz processor, 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, and is available in 16, 32, or 64GB flash storage capacities. Additional specs include an accelerometer, compass, speaker, mic, 30-pin Apple dock connector, and 10-hour built-in battery for surfing the web on wi-fi.

Standard apps that come pre-loaded on the device include a mobile Safari web browser, an e-book reader app called iBooks, a calendar app, two-pane email app, contacts, notes, Google Maps, media player, photo viewer, iTunes store, and App Store to download third-party applications and games. Existing iPhone applications are centered on-screen at their original 480x320 resolution, or can be run in a magnified mode where the app is enlarged to fit the entire screen.

Apple has also providing the host of accessories for iPad, which include iPad keyboard dock, which also helps in charging, iPad case, iPad dock, camera connection kit, and USB cable.

Apple will offer models with built-in unlocked 3G data capabilities. US customers can purchase an AT&T 250MB data plan for $14.99 per month or an unlimited data plan for $29.99 per month.

Wi-Fi only iPad models will be available by the beginning of April 2010:

Samsung Shark S5550

Another entry level phone from Samsung. The Shark S5550 comes with a 2.2-inch AMOLED screen and sports an impressive 5 mega pixel auto-focus camera. It supports dual band 3G with 3.6 MBPS and, along with that, also has support for quad-band GSM for worldwide roaming. It also has the same spec sheet in connectivity with Bluetooth 2.1, USB 2.0 and an expandable memory through a MicroSD card as with other siblings. It also has 110 MB worth of inbuilt memory.

Samsung Shark S3550

Samsung Shark S3550 is a compact slider phone. It has a 2-inch QVGA display and quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity options. It also has a decent 2-megapixel fixed focused camera. Other highlights of this low budget phone are – MicroSD expansion, USB 2.0 support and Bluetooth 2.1.

Samsung Shark S5350

After sweeping the low end touch screen phone market with Corby series, Samsung has announced the entry level market with Shark Series.

The Samsung Shark S5350 is a bar phone. It has a 2.2-inch QVGA screen with a color support of up to 262K colors. It is 3G enabled with 3.6MBPS HSDPA. It also supports quad band GSM and sports a 3.2 MP camera. Its defining feature is that it is has thin 11.9 mm figure. It also scores in the local connectivity department with Bluetooth and USB support and also features expansion through a MicroSD slot.

This is the sole netbook displayed by LG at CES 2010, will be available for US market shortly.

LG Bliss

LG Bliss unveiled in CES 2010. The LG Bliss has a 1,000-entry phone book with five phone numbers, two e-mail addresses, a memo, and a Web site URL. You can organize your contacts into caller groups, add a photo to a contact, plus one of 25 ringtones or one of eight message alert tones. Other basic features include a vibrate mode, a speakerphone, text and multimedia messaging, voice command, an alarm clock, a calendar, an organizer, a world clock, a notepad, a calculator, a tip calculator, a unit converter, and a stopwatch. There's also a drawing panel application that lets you sketch down doodles and send them to friends if you wish.

Skype calls from televisions

Soon you can make Skype calls from your HD ready televisions. Skype has made a deal with LG and Panasonic that will allow users to call other Skype users or phones via their televisions.

Skype software will be embedded into Panasonic’s line of 2010 VIERA CAST-enabled HDTVs and LG’s 26 new LCD and plasma HDTVs with NetCast Entertainment Access™. Both lines are expected to be available in mid-2010. Both LG and Panasonic will offer specially-designed HD webcams that are optimized for Skype video calls as separate accessories that can be plugged into the televisions. These webcams support 720p HD and include special microphones and optics that can pick up sound and video from a couch-distance.

Skype on HDTV will support Skype-to-Skype free video calling, lower call rates to landlines and mobiles, voice conference calls, accept incoming calls via a user’s onlineSkype number and more.

With Skype embedded into Internet-connected HDTVs, the company is creating a new experience that will allow people to communicate from the comfort of their living rooms.

The new HDTVs will deliver familiar Skype features including:

  • Free Skype-to-Skype voice and video calls

Google Nexus one


Beginning of the year 2010 will see the launch of the much awaited and discussed smart phone from Google.

The Google phone called as Nexus One, will be unveiled on Jan 5 of 2010, with the latest Android operating system version 2.1. It will feature a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, a 3.7-inch, 480 x 800 display, has 512MB of ROM, 512MB of RAM, and a 4GB microSD card (expandable to 32GB) , 5-megapixel camera and Wi-Fi connectivity. It also includes light sensor, proximity sensor, and accelerometer.

Android operating system is already being used in many other existing smart phones by vendors like Motorola, Samsung and HTC.
