Canon's $100 handheld phto printer

Digital photography is well accepted now. It has almost replaced the traditional film based photo media with the ease of sharing the photos on internet and low cost of printing.

Sharing photos on net is alright, but people still love to share their photos in print format. People love to stack them in albums and circulate them. Now that means you have to go to a photo lab to request the prints, to make it more convenient Canon has launched a portable printer named SELPHY CP740 .

Canon's SELPHY compact photo printer aims to address this - it's a full lab-color 4" x 6" photo printer that prints straight from a camera or memory card, and is small enough to be called handheld. Its dye-sublimation printing process is similar to what your local photo processing shop uses.

The SELPHY Compact Photo Printer features a two-inch color LCD display, red-eye correction and multiple direct printing options that cut the computer out of the printing process and can print straight from a camera or memory card. It prints borderless, full-photo lab quality, 4”x6” image in approximately 58 seconds

The SELPHY's two-inch color LCD screen enables consumers to view their images and select only their favorite images to print.

The Canon SELPHY CP740 Compact Photo Printer will be available soon for an estimated selling price of US$99.99.

General Dynamics UMPC GoBook VR2

General Dynamics has launched a rugged notebook or UMPC named Gobook VR2. It was due since their acquisition of Itronix.

The product features 13.3-inch transflective screen, which is not a typical display, thanks to the Dynavue outdoor screen technology that GD-Itronix developed. This new technology uses polarizing techniques and a multi-layered coating to reduce sunlight reflection. The result is a better-contrast ratio. Images also appear brighter despite a NIT rating of only 500 (NIT ratings can go as high as 1,000 with outdoor screens). The benefits are obviously better contrast and brightness of the screen, resulting it is more viewable under the sun.

An Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz) processor, 2GB of RAM, and Draft 802.11n support give you better performance on the scale. It comes standard with an 80GB hard drive and a WWAN module that will let you fit either an EVDO or HSDPA cellular modem. It has a GPS antenna built in and a stylus for use with the touch screen functions. Retail price for the VR-2 will start at $3,500.
